Historique :	Le petit guide de Saint-Savin donne cette Vierge classique comme d'origine syrienne, portée d'Orient par les croisés, aux environs de l'an 1100 et selon la même tradition, offerte par l'abbaye de Saint-Victor de Marseille à l'abbaye de Saint-Savin en Lavedan, sa filiale depuis 1080. Placée dans le choeur, cette statue a présidé jusqu'en 1640 la prière des moines. Elle continue à être très vénérée par les populations lavedanaises.

Précision sur_l'état :	Toutes les mains sont cassées. Passage à nouveau en C.S.M.H. le 13 novembre 1958, alors que l'arrêté de classement date du 21 mars 1904. Récolement du 09/07/2021 : état moyen : infestation active ; sculpture très remaniée, restaurée, repeinte. Lacune du volume : les deux mains de la Vierge. Fragilisations probable des bois.
